Muse Yearbook Staff
Attends State Convention
Members of the Muse yearbook staff brought home eight awards from the Indiana High School Press Association State Convention held at Franklin College over Fall Break, October 22-23.
According to IHSPA records, this was the first time in about 20 years that the staff had competed at the State level. LHS competes in Division 1, with other Indiana schools with enrollments under 1,000. Because the State awards are for the 2009 book, some of the students honored graduated last year.
In the state contests, Kailey Ash, Kristen Miller and 2009 grad Emily Shook took second in the Club Spread category, and Karissa Tomlin and the Muse Staff placed second in Advertising. Melinda Alvarez, Kelsea Black and Miller took third place for their People Section Spreads, while Caleb Ringwald earned two individual third places in the Feature Photo and PhotoJjournalism Portfolio categories. Miller, who served as editor last year and this year, earned an honorable mention for Overall Theme. For more of this story please subscribe!

Central School Coming to Life Again
By Janis Buhl
Dr. Bill McDonald is young and energetic. He has a daughter, Kendall, that likes to play basketball, and hopes to play for a college someday. With her interest in mind, the first area to be fixed was the gymnasium and that is where I found the two of them - playing ball Friday morning. The shower rooms have been reworked also.
Dr. McDonald spoke to the morning Kiwanis on October 23 and outlined the steps he had taken to make the building better. He is planning to make the classrooms into offices or business locations and is currently advertising space for rent with a sign in front of the building.
