Chartering of New Kiwanis Club for Youth Celebrated

    The Western Wayne Elementary Kiwanis K-Kids Club, sponsored by the Cambridge City Evening Kiwanis, held its chartering celebration at the school cafeteria on the evening of June 16th. Members of the Kiwanis Evening Club as well as others from Cambridge City New Day, Richmond and Brookville Kiwanis clubs were present at the chartering event. Incoming Indiana District of Kiwanis 2009-2010 Governor Darwin DeLaughter was also in attendance for the celebration.
    Indiana District of Kiwanis K-Kids Coordinator Vannessa McClary, spoke on "What Is K-Kids," and sang an inspirational song about helping others. Her daughter, past Indiana District of Kiwanis Key Club Governor Victoria McClary, interpreted the words of the song into sign language.
    Principal Rene Lakes received the charter as well as the K-Kids Club gong and gavel from P.A. Cohen, Chairwoman of the Evening Kiwanis K-Kids Committee. For more of this story please subscribe!

Welliver’s Smorgasbord Future Secured by Sale

    Another sign went up last weekend at the entrance to Welliver’s Smorgasbord, this time announcing that Welliver’s is NOT going out of business.
    A buyer, who asked not to be identified, said that the valuable Welliver name will be retained and details of the sale and future operations are expected to be finalized next week. For more of this story please subscribe!

Independence Day Travel Safety

   As the July 4th holiday approaches, the Indiana State Police advise all residents and visitors to use their best judgment while traveling Indiana’s roadways. The Indiana State Police will be patrolling roads across Indiana to keep motorists safe. Troopers will be looking for motorists who commit crash and injury causing traffic violations, such as impaired driving, speeding, following too close, and those not wearing their seatbelt.
    Troopers will be participating in federally funded enforcement programs Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) and S.W.D.U.I.E.P. (Statewide Driving Under the Influence Project). For more of this story please subscribe!
