Dublin Will Seek Rehab Funding

With several families indicating interest in housing rehab, the Town of Dublin has decided to apply for a grant to help them pay for it.
The town will apply in January for a $250,000 Indiana Housing Rehabilitation Grant. If awarded the full amount, it could pay for rehab projects on 12 to 15 homes. If the town receives funding, work could begin in late spring.
Homeowners must meet income guidelines in order to receive funding.
Town Council held a public hearing about the grant on Dec. 8, 2009. The town works through Star Development to apply for the money. For more of this story please subscribe!

Arson Suspected in Garage Fire

By Janis Buhl
The property at 208 West Main Street, which has been the topic of discussion at several town council meetings, was damaged by fire early Sunday morning, December 27. The garage contained numerous boxes of clothing as well as some cats. It is known that two cats perished in the fire, but it is unknown if there were more in the building. Owner, Thelma Meers, told officials that they came once a week and put out a large amount of food for the cats.
The building was locked and a window had been broken out prior to the arrival of the fire departments from Cambridge City, Dublin and Milton.
Travis Wilhite, Cambridge City Police Officer on duty, noticed a lot of smoke in the area and drove down the alley to investigate. He called in the fire at approximately 2:00 a.m. When firemen arrived, the east end of the garage was fully involved, however the fire was contained to the garage and did not damage any nearby properties.
