Kathy Meal Named Citizen of the Year

By Janis Buhl
When you attend the Kiwanis Citizen of the Year event, you listen as the accomplishments of the person are listed and think "Wow! How will they ever top that next year?" Last year it seemed as if the recipients, Charles and Barbara Ringwald, had been involved in all the community activities, the school activities and their church’s activities. Yet this year, when Charles Ringwald read the things that Kathy Meal had done as a volunteer, it was truly amazing.
She is active in the Alpha Epsilon sorority where she took care of Christmas shopping, wrapping and distributing gifts to the special needs classes. She, with help from her sister, started the Running Scared 5K which benefits different special needs charities. She also volunteers to help with the Fireman’s 5K and is passionate about the fight against breast cancer. She has participated in the Race for the Cure for at least 10 years. Milton Signs On With Fayette Sewage Board

Milton Town Council has signed a contract with the Fayette County Sewage Board for wastewater treatment.
The Council took the action at its Dec. 8 meeting.
"The council was very pleased with the contract. It protects the citizens of Milton from any rate increases until three years after the hook on. The town will not pay for any updates regarding the storm water or the Visteon plant," said Donna Smith-Powell, Council president. For more of this story please subscribe!

Cora Harris Retires After 22 years With American Red Cross

By Janis Buhl
Cora said, "It’s time for me to retire and it’s good for the agency too." This doesn’t mean she won’t be there anymore, as she intends to volunteer two days a week, but Groth was only part time, and her departure allows him to become full-time.
Cora worked under Sue Elliott when she began working for Red Cross 22 years ago. She has worked with many individuals and families who were in need of assistance through the years including families who lost their home to fire. They provide shelter, clothing, groceries and personal items through disbursement orders, plus give them quilts and items donated at the office. "Volunteer Fire Departments are good to notify us," said Harris. For more of this story please susbscribe!

Donations Still Being Accepted
for Love Baskets

Although there has been a lot of canned food donated, there is still a need for some help. According to Maurice Powell, the number of people needing baskets is similar to last year, however, there may be more names added before they distribute the baskets. They expect to deliver between 150 - 160 baskets on December 19th.

The canned food is collected at the schools each year, but the baskets also include eggs, bread, milk, potatoes, which require a lot of cash. If you can help with this, it would be greatly appreciated. Donations may be sent to: Morning Kiwanis, c/o Alan Austin, 1010 E. Main, Cambridge City, IN 47327. Every donation is appreciated, no matter the size.
