A bit of a challenge to get to the homes at
the edge of town going south on Holtscaw Rd. in Milton, but
at least you can drive down SR 1 and around the barriers
instead of having to go west on South Street and out in the
country.
It is still necessary to come and go from town via the detour.
The sidewalks look good and I’m glad to see that the Tackett’s
porch is still there. It will be beautiful when it’s finished, and before
long, the memories of the aggravation of the constrcution detours will fade.

Tuesday, shortly after noon, a scooter driven
by Karen Elliott, 17, and a vehicle driven by Christina Hutchens,

Elliott stated she was eastbound in the service alley approaching
South Foote. She said she stopped and looked both ways, but did not see any
other vehicles approaching so she pulled onto Foote to cross over and was struck.
Hutchens stated she was southbound on Foote and the scooter
pulled out in front of her and she dod not have time to stop completely before

Cambridge City Town Council Approves
New Roof for Fire Station
by Jenny Pugh
The Cambridge City Town Council met in council chambers
on Monday, August 10, 2009, with all members present except Debbie McGinley.
Claims payable were signed and minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
CCVFD Chief Dave Shank updated members on the cost of repairing
vs. replacing the pump on the tanker truck. Cost to repair is $2000 for the
part alone, while a new pump cost just over $1900. Council voted to replace
the pump.
Quotes to replace the metal Fire Dept. roof were reviewed.
GEM Builders was chosen to replace the roof, add 6" of insulation, and
cover the wood fascia with metal, for a total of $22,100. Fleagel’s bid
was slightly higher while Five-Star’s bid was nearly triple that amount.
Approval was also given to replace the three original 1960’s furnaces
with 2 new, energy efficient hanging heaters from Dungan Plumbing & Heating
at a cost of $4,326.92, nearly $500 less than the quote from CM Contractors.
Shank expressed his thanks to the council on behalf of the fire dept. These
improvements are greatly needed and are expected to considerably lower the
cost of heating the building. For
